Am 29.10.25 hatten wir eine Delegation aus Brumadinho zu Besuch im Rheinischen Revier. Gemeinsam wurde der Kampf um Klimagerechtigkeit und der Wiederstand gegen RWE und die drohende Räumung und Rodung der Waldstrukturen rund um das Sündenwäldchen besucht.
Im Rheinischen Revier wird mit der Braunkohleverstromung ein Beitrag zum globalen Klimawandel geleistet. Wir übernehmen die Verantwortung und geben betroffenen Menschen die Bühne und eine kleine Möglichkeit, die Öffentlichkeit für ihren Kampf zu bekommen. Hier sollten Kämpfe eine Bühne bekommen.
In Brumadinho starben 272 Menschen, eine Landschaft und Lebensgrundlagen wurden zerstört und großes Leid geschaffen. Mit in der Verantwortung – der TÜV Süd – ein deutsches Unternehmen, dass den zerstörten Damm skandalöserweise als sicher eingestuft hatte. Es fehlt nach wie vor eine Entscheidung bezüglich der Strafanzeige, die im Herbst 2019 bei der Münchener Staatsanwaltschaft eingereicht wurde. Wir fordern die klare Aufarbeitung dieses Falls. Das European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights aus Berlin und Misereor begleiten diesen Prozess.
Es war eine Freude die Delegation in Manheim und Berverath, zwei Dörfern im Widerstand gegen die Braunkohle, zu begrüßen. Es ist schön, dass neben den großen Ballungsräumen Köln oder FFM auch das Rheinische Revier Anlaufstelle bleibt! Wir wünschen viel Kraft für den Protest und den Klageweg! Danke an alle, die an der Mahnwache in Manheim oder im Cafe Nr 5 am Schwalbenhof in Berverath dabei waren. Justice for Brumadinho – For Climate Justice in the Rhineland and Everywhere!
On October 29, 2025, we welcomed a delegation from Brumadinho to the Rhenish lignite mining region. Together, we visited sites of struggle for climate justice and resistance against RWE and the looming eviction and deforestation of the forest structures around the “Sündenwäldchen.” In the Rhenish mining area, lignite-based power generation continues to contribute to global climate change.
We take responsibility and aim to give affected people a platform – a space to bring their struggle into the public. These struggles deserve visibility and a stage.
In Brumadinho, 272 people lost their lives, landscapes and livelihoods were destroyed and immense suffering was caused. Also bearing responsibility: TÜV Süd – a German company that scandalously certified the collapsed dam as safe, just before its destruction. There is still no decision regarding the criminal complaint that was filed with the Munich public prosecutor’s office in the fall of 2019. We demand a thorough and transparent investigation of this case. The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights und Misereor support these investigations.
It was a pleasure to welcome the delegation to the Mahnwache in Manheim and the Cafe Nr. 5 at the Schwalbenhof in Berverath, two places resisting lignite mining. It is encouraging that, beyond the major urban centers like Cologne or Frankfurt, the Rhenish mining region continues to be a place of solidarity and connection.
We wish the delegation strength for their protests and legal struggle! Thank you to everyone who joined in Manheim and Berverath. Thank you to Observatório das Ações Penais sobre a Tragédia em Brumadinho and the Instituto Cordilheira.
